Anya van Hoogstraten is an actor, singer, and dancer based in New York City.
Recently, Anya originated the role of Margot in Slam Frank off-Broadway (AsylumNYC), which was featured in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Deadline, and more. She is currently recording the Slam Frank Original Cast Album.
Other latest credits include The Little Match Girl (Signature Theatre/Theater 555), The Glitch (Gural Theatre), and the short film Enjoy Your Visit.
Anya is a graduate of Yale University, where she received a B.A. in Sociology. She performed in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 (Sonya), Hand to God (Margery), Gypsy (Mazeppa), and more through the Yale Dramatic Association, Yale TDAPS Department, and the Yale Drama Coalition. At Yale, she studied acting with James Bundy, Dean of the David Geffen School of Drama, Annette Jolles, and Andrea Burns, as well as voice with Joy Hermalyn and Benjamin Eakeley.
In 2023, Anya completed The Barrow Group’s 6-week Professional Intensive, where she learned the art of “letting go.” Whether it be Shakespeare, musical theater, or film, Anya is drawn to process-driven work that allows for play while diving into the complexities of her characters. She prides herself in being detail-oriented, driven, and committed to her work, and loves to learn from her collaborators and challenge herself to grow as an artist.
Anya is originally from Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. In high school, she garnered National Youth Arts and Metropolitan High School Theater Award nominations for her performance as Ilse in Spring Awakening. Anya is also a tutor, pilates lover, and published scientist in Developmental Cell journal!
